Q: How can hypnotherapy help me?

A: Hypnosis is a natural, normal state of relaxation.  It is a state of mind brought about by the use of a set of techniques, and allows the Client to improve their concentration and heighten awareness in order to address issues, and make positive changes

Q: Will if I can't be hypnotised?

A: Most people can be hypnotised - as long as they want to be, are willing to allow it to happen, and they understand what they need to do to achieve hypnosis (simply to sit back and focus their concentration on following suggestions for relaxation)

Q: Will I be made to do or say something I don't want to whilst hypnotised?

A: The Client remains in control throughout, and cannot be made to say or do anything that they do not want to, and are free to leave the hypnotic state at any time.  Hypnosis is a state created within the mind of the subject, and therefore, if a subject is unwilling to be hypnotised, then they won't be

Q: Is hypnosis dangerous?

A: Hypnosis is a totally natural state, and is not addictive or habit forming; you may practice quite safely as you choose to. It is not dangerous, and provided you are taught by an experienced and qualified professional therapist, you will learn the many benefits of self-hypnosis for everyday life

Q: Will I remember everything that I heard during hypnosis?

A:  Most Clients remember everything from the hypnotherapy session. In some cases, they may need reminding of something to trigger the memory completely

Q.  Will the therapist have to touch me?

A:  Some therapists will touch you on the wrist, shoulder, neck or forehead to test whether you are properly relaxed or to assist you into a deeper state of hypnosis. They should seek your permission first. Other than this form of contact, a therapist has no business touching you. The vast majority of therapists are ethical, but should you have any misgivings about your session you should get in touch with the professional body that your therapist is a member of and report the matter

Q: Can I get 'stuck' in hypnosis?

A:  The trance state can be terminated at any time you choose. It is your choice to enter the trance state and you can always choose to leave it. If you were left in a trance state by your therapist (or by a hypnotic tape), you would either return to full consciousness on your own or enter a natural sleep, and awaken after a short pleasant nap. In any case professional therapists are trained to awaken clients reluctant to leave the trance state

Q: Is hypnosis suitable for children?

A: Yes, usually from about the age of 6, provided they can understand what is being said, are imaginative, and can concentrate for a relatively long period of time. Often children can benefit from relaxation.  They must always be accompanied by a parent or appropriate adult during a session
