Sainsbury's has urgently recalled a popular chocolate bar over fears it may contain 'fragments of metal'.

The major supermarket has warned customers not to eat its Belgian Milk Chocolate Honeycomb Pretzel 150g bar, £2.50, and to return any bar bought to their nearest store.

The recall affects products with best before dates before the end of April.

Those who have already bought the treat will be granted a full refund after returning the confectionery.

A Sainsbury's representative said: If you have purchased the above product with the affected batch code, please do not consume this product and instead return it to any Sainsbury’s store for a refund.'

The urgent 'do not eat' order was issued when metal fragments were discovered in some of the products.

But the supermarket said that no other products have been affected by this issue.

It comes days after another supermarket giant issued an urgent 'do not eat' warning over a popular savoury snack due to fears it could be laced with potentially lethal salmonella.

The supermarket has urgently recalled its Sol & Mar Chicharricos BBQ Pork Scratchings as 'they may be contaminated with salmonella', the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said.

Specifically, the warning applies to 100g packets of the meaty snack with best before dates from August 5 to 12, 2025 inclusive.

Shoppers who bought the scratchings have been instructed not to eat them and instead return them to store for a full refund. No receipt is needed.

Salmonella bacteria are a common cause of food poisoning and are most often found in raw meat, undercooked poultry, eggs and unpasteurised milk.

'The potential presence' of the nasty bacteria in the affected batch of scratchings could cause 'severe gastrointestinal symptoms', the FSA warned.

The government body added: 'Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.'

Lidl has posted notices in its stores to alert customers to the urgent recall.

Young children, people aged 65 and over and those whose immune systems are not working properly are at greater risk of becoming 'severely ill' with food poisoning by salmonella, according to FSA guidance.
